Primary

The curriculum in Primary is varied and challenging. It is designed to give students excellent reading, writing and Maths skills and also the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in a wide range of areas.
The curriculum is divided into core subjects (English, Mathematics, Spanish and Science) and non core subjects which are taught in modules within the Extended Curriculum programme.
The core subjects are taught to a high standard and based on the principle that most of our students are capable of above average achievement. Starting in Year 1, pupils do weekly Maths challenges and spelling tests. In doing so, progress and improvement becomes a habit and students quickly lose any fear of tests.

Additional curriculum subjects, such as history, geography, art, computing, sports and music, are taught in modules as part of the Extended Curriculum. Work is typically project based and at the end of each module pupils produce a final piece of work or a performance. The Extended Curriculum includes compulsory modules and elective modules that allow pupils to delve further into areas that interest them.
Classes have a maximum of 24 students. The lead teacher of each class teaches Maths, English and Science from the core curriculum and some Extended Curriculum modules. Specialists teach Spanish, sports and music modules and some of the art and science modules of the Extended Curriculum.
From Year 5 onwards, students are assigned a mentor with whom they meet regularly on an individual basis to discuss their progress in school. This is designed to help students think more deliberately about their learning in preparation for more independent study in Secondary school.
