EYFS Art Week

EYFS Art Week

During Art week, our EYFS children explored the theme of "Water in Art". From the crashing waves of the sea to the winding paths of rivers, each class explored water through a different lens.

The centerpiece of the week was a large, collaborative project where every class helped recreate Claude Monet's famous lily pond in 3D. Our youngest students made colorful fish by layering blue tissue paper and then using spray bottles. They watched as the water made the colours leak and blend, mimicking fish shimmering under the surface.

Nursery children used wooden blocks and bubble wrap to stamp textures onto their water lilies and scrunched tissue paper to make the flowers stand out in 3D. Finally, using sponges, Reception children carefully dabbed paint onto petals to capture the soft, hazy look of real flowers. Everyone helped paint our bridge made of cardboard boxes. We took the project outside (Monet's favorite way to work) to see how the real sunlight changed the colors as we painted. It was wonderfully messy and so much fun for everyone!

Beyond the collaborative project, each class created individual pieces exploring different bodies of water. Pre-Nursery printed wave patterns using painted bubble wrap, while Nursery A made 3D waterfall collages with foil and tissue paper. Nursery B explored waterfalls using squeegee techniques for rushing water and spray bottles for misty effects. Reception created three pieces of art experimenting with various mediums—from sponge-painted rivers on canvas to watercolor paint expanding on salt, and clingfilm creating ripples in acrylic paint.

Art week reminded us that art is as much about the process and the experience as it is the final product. By working together, the children saw that every small contribution became an important part of a beautiful, finished display that both they and their parents were very proud of.
