Science

Through science, students understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change, thus impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving quality of life.

Students are taught to work scientifically by asking simple questions, performing experiments and tests, making observations, classifying and presenting data, analysing functions, relationships and interactions, using evidence, reporting findings and drawing conclusions.

Prior to moving onto Secondary School, in Years 5 and 6, children start to develop a deeper understanding of a wide range of scientific ideas. They also begin to explore more abstract theories and recognise how these help them to understand and predict how the world operates. They also begin to recognise that scientific ideas change and develop over time.
